Description

Bone china, decorated with integrally moulded reliefs reserved in a pale blue ground, painting in polychrome enamels, and gilding. Elongated oval dish with a wavy edge, and curved sides, standing on an oval footring. The inside of the dish is decorated with a bulging oval reserve edged in gold and painted in polychrome with auricular and speedwell. The border has four raised floral sprays reserved in a pale blue ground, with painted polychrome stems between them, a rose, a tulip, a convolvulus and a purple crocus. There is a thick gold band round the edge. The base is painted in purple enamel with ‘Auriculer & Speedwell./Spode,2004.

Note

Spode pattern number 2004 was introduced in 1813-14. This dish was part of a dessert, breakfast, tea and coffee service of pattern 2004 probably made c. 1825, which formed part of the collection of Spode and Copeland ceramics at Trellissick Mansion.
