The painting, 'The Banditti of Kurdistan assisting Georgians in surprising and carrying off Circassian Women', now lost, was commissioned by Lord Carysfort (1751-1828) and completed in Italy in 1827. A finished compositional drawing, squared for transfer, is at the Yale Centre for British Art, New Haven, Connecticut.
