Description

Tortoise-shell with miniature of flowers in a vase on a table

Tortoise-shell set with a miniature in bodycolour and watercolour on card, mounted under glass in gold. The circular box has straight sides and a flat pull-off lid. The box is lined in gold and has gold mounts round the upper and lower edges and rims. The circular miniature depicts a butterfly above a vase of flowers, including roses, tulips, delphiniums, auriculas, scabious, forget-me-nots and morning glory, on a marble topped table with ormolu mounts and ram's head corners.
