Soft-paste porcelain coffee can painted underglaze in blue with 'Lady and Servant' pattern
Soft-paste porcelain printed and painted underglaze in blue. Cylindrical with a loop handle which has a central vertical depression. The exterior is decorated with the ‘Lady and Servant’ pattern: a Chinese man and a woman standing in a garden beside small bushes with a tree and a fence between them. A group of five tiny birds fly over the man. A blue band runs round the inside of the rim.
History note: J. & J. Baker, probably the Lavenham firm, from whom purchased on 20 April 1992 by Christopher Hogwood, CBE (1941-2014), Cambridge; purchased from his executors by the Friends of the Fitzwilliam Museum
