Pottery: Unidentified Staffordshire Pottery
Earthenware decorated with underglaze oxides; tortoiseshell ware
Dark cream earthenware, press-moulded, and decorated with blue, green, yellow and greyish-black oxide colours under lead-glaze. The plate is octagonal with a milled edge, almost flat rim, slightly sloping sides and flat centre. The front is mottled in grey oxide colour and has four areas on the rim and five in the centre dabbed with blue, green, and yellow which have run into each other to produce a 'tortoiseshell' effect. The back is dabbed or sponged with grey overall.
