Pottery: Unidentified Staffordshire Pottery
Creamware, moulded, pierced, and decorated with metallic oxides under lead-glaze
Dark creamware, moulded, pierced, and decorated with metallic oxides under lead-glaze. The oval stand has a rim wth eight lobes formed by scrolls enclosing panels of pierced trellis work, with smaller areas of basket-work between them. It has shallow sloping sides and a flat centre. The rim is coloured in rough stripes of yellow, green, manganese-purple and grey oxide colours, and the flat centre is dappled in the same colours before glazing. The reverse has been sponged or spattered with manganese-oxide before glazing.
