Description

Heart shaped handle with a device under glass at both sides. One side is the same as no. 263 (possibly relating to object PER.M.263-1923). The other shows two doves standing on a tomb, on which there are two hearts, while a shrub grows up on either side. Above, are the initials J. P. in a mixture of paint and hair, on what is possibly ivory.
The seal is a red carnelian, and shows a cupid attacking a peacock, while round this runs the legend AMOUR HAIT LORGVEIL

The gem catalogue states 'winged Cupid, armed with his quiver, removing his arrow from a peacock'
