Description

Tin-glazed earthenware dish painted in polychrome with a Chinese garden design

Buff earthenware, tin-glazed and painted in green, blue, yellow and red. Circular with a sloping rim, curved sides and flat centre, standing on a footring. (Archer's Shape E) The well is painted with a Chinese garden with a flowering tree on the right with a fence to the left, and two insects flying overhead, enclosed by two concentric blue circles, and a third a short distance away. On the rim there are three repeats of floral sprays flanking a green and blue rock-like motif, with two narrow blue bands below and one above. There are three peg marks on the underside of the rim
