Description

Tin-glazed earthenware plate painted and sponged in manganese with a shepherd boy standing in a landscape

Buff earthenware, press-moulded, tin-glazed greyish-white, and painted and sponged in manganese-purple . Circular with a wide sloping rim, shallow curved sides, and flat centre, standing on a footring. The front is decorated with an elegant shepherd boy standing leaning on a staff in a landscape with an urn on an arch beside a tree on the left, rocks and sponged trees on the right, and a sponged tree and a building with a tower in the distance to right. There are numerous pinholes in the glaze on the back, and three peg marks on the underside of the rim.
