Description

Four architectural panels. They are made from wood, carved in high relief and gilt, with painted/lacquered details, the reverse is lacquered brown with shallow gilt intaglio carving.
M/F.17A: Depicts dragons, bats and fish emerging from a rocky arch inscribed 'Yumen' (The Gate of Yu the Great). Red fabric background.
M/F.17B: Depicts Fenghuang, Chilin, deer etc. in landscape. Background of mica laminae.
M/F.17C: Depicts a 'theatrical' battle before judges in an architectural setting. Many inscribed banners. Background of mica laminae.
M/F.17D: Depicts a pastoral landscape, with figures relaxing, picking fruit etc. Background of red fabric.
