Description

Tin-glazed earthenware plate painted and sponged in blue

Buff earthenware, press-moulded, tin-glazed bluish-white, and painted and sponged in dull greyish- blue. Circular with a sloping rim, shallow curved sides and flat centre, standing on a footrim. The front is decorated with a lady and gentleman standing between two tall trees in a landscape with a fence behind them, a house, and further trees and bushes. The gentleman holds out his tricorn hat in his left hand and the lady points with her right to something out of sight. Overhead there are three schematic birds. There are two peg marks on the back of the rim.
