Pottery: Unidentified Staffordshire Pottery
White salt-glazed stoneware vase painted in polychrome enamels with an exotic bird amid flowering plants
White salt-glazed stoneware, thrown, and painted on the exterior in blue, green, turquoise, yellow, pink, and black enamels. The interior has many pale greyish-brown spots and speckles. The bell-shaped body of the vase has an inward curving rim. It is supported on a very short stem with an anulet attached to the conical foot. The exterior is decorated in Chinese famille rose style with an exotic bird and an insect among flowering trees and plants. The inward curving rim has a border of three narrow panels of turquoise and black trellis diaper alternating with three panels enclosing half a pink and yellow flower with six leaves. The foot has a wide border of four lappet-like motifs decorated with formal flowers and foliage .
