Inscription in pencil on the back "… Joseph Gulston who died in his 14th year July 16 1786. / He formed an ....[?] collection ... [?] portraits offered this collection to the Emperor of Russia for £20.000 which was refused. The colelction was sold in London on a 40 days sale realized ...[unreadable]".
