Description

Loose within album P.14347-R. A hand-coloured lithograph on 4to-sized thin wove paper. An elaborate 'illuminated' border featuring stylised flowers enclosing a vignette of an embracing couple flanked by cupids/putti with a church in the background. The title is incorporated as part of the border at upper centre: MY OWN CHOICE with a printed verse below the vignette: "My own, my fondest, and my choice, / Yours is the charm and yours the voice, / Of Love that leads my captive heart, / Within the range of Cupid's dart, ...". The inside pages are blank. From a series. A duplicate is P.14346-R-18. The Museum of London holds a few examples from the same series: See 34.170/1127, with the title, CONSTANT EVER; 34.170/1120, with the title, HOPE / LOVE and 34.170/1133, with the title TRUE BLUE, all of which are given a date of 1860-1880.A couple getting married with cupids around them. Printed title "My own choice" and verse "My own, my fondest, and my choice, yours is the charm, and yours the voice…".
