Description

Loose within album P.14347-R. A lithograph on 4to-sized wove paper with a large, hand-coloured vignette at upper centre featuring a couple in a garden with classical architecture and an urn of flowers. The top-hatted gentleman points to a church in the distance with his right hand. Below, an illuminated letter begins a printed verse: "Heart and hope with love entwining - / Every feeling rife combining …". On the inside right-hand page and continued onto the verso is a hand-written letter in graphite in which a woman addresses her sister and comments on a photograph which she has received of her sister and her husband. She expresses a wish to see her again but then adds "but that will never be" and then goes on to tell her about her "two smart boys, one 14 and one 10" and that they live in the "London County Council Building" where they have "two rooms, Copper & scullery all to ourselves for 6/6 a week".
One of a series. P.14347-R-L12 and P.14347-R-L13 are duplicates. Other numbers from the same series are: P.14347-R-L9, P.14347-R-L14, P.14346-R-24 and P.14346-R-25.
