Variants of this pattern, described as 'al tulipano' (tulip), was used on Doccia tableware from about 1745 until the beginning of the 19th century. Despite its name, the design was derived from the peony motifs on Chinese porcelain. There is a smaller dish with a comparable floral design in the Victoria and Albert Museum (C.153-1922).
