Factory: Unidentified Staffordshire factory
Off-white stoneware, slip-cast with integral relief decoration, applied moulded feet, applied handle, and salt-glaze. The sauce boat stands on three lion's mask and paw feet. It has a rounded oval body with a projecting lip, and wavy rim. The reeded loop handle has a curved kick at the lower end. The sides are decorated with shells and interlacing foliage, large flower heads, bunches of nuts (?) and on either side of the lip a winged cherub's head and a snail. On the underside there are two indented ovals between the feet.
