Description

Large watch in pierced silver case.
MOVEMENT: Full plate movement engraved 'Jean Barberet A Paris'. Balance cock, table oval pierced and engraved, with free form edge. Neck square pierced, foot small pierced and engraved with free form edge, now with screw fixing. Polished steel balance. Pierced and engraved set-up click. Silver locking plate with radial Arabic figures, centre chased with floral design, steel hand set in central brass stud. Engraved decoration around rectangular escapement hole.
Fusee iron post pierced and chased. Brass case bolt and spring, with decorative foot, on dial plate having steel nib through dial plate. Potance riveted to top plate. Counter potance screwed to top plate, having steel adjusting screw. Striking barrel pierced and engraved with flowers. Decorative steel striking gates. Hammer arbour baluster shape.
Pillar plate with four turned baluster pillars. One pierced steel latch for dial plate. Three rectangular holes for dial plate feet.
Split fusee and chain, fusee cut for, and barrel with holes for, gut. Barrel with two lips. Set-up click on top plate. Verge escapement. Train planted clockwise. Striking train of five pinions, speed controlled by inertia. Train planted clockwise.

HAND: Flat blued steel with circular counterpoise.

DIAL PLATE: Four projections to fit case, three bayonet feet. Front engraved with flowers outside and inside. Silver chapter ring engraved with radial Roman chapters with very small arrow half-hour marks, all between rings. Back with engraved lines around edge, recess for hour wheel and pinion of report.

BELL: Heavy with thick edge.

CASE: Silver body pierced and engraved with flowers, with some brass reinforcing pieces inside the back. The bezel and edge of body are also engraved with flowers. Glass retained with ring, with tabs bent to retain glass against ring, and ring into bezel. Spherical pendent with plain ring.

The watch appears to have been modernised.
