Cylinder watch with pirouette in silver case, mounted on bronze monkey stand.
MOVEMENT: Plain top plate with off-set back dial motion work, small plain bridge in centre. Steel plugs for escape, cylinder and pirouette, each with two fixing screws. 'C' shaped slot over balance (cylinder). Thin brass plate around edge to space rear dial. Going barrel, plain. Polished steel case bolt, conical end, nib under dial. Pillar plate with three plain turned, slightly tapered, pillars. Centre wheel recessed. Third and escape. bridge. Edge raised with outside tapered towards dial, engraved with slot marked 'R' and 'A' at ends, ridge pillar side and step dial side. Thin brass balance and pirouette cock, steel end piece with one central screw. Winding click. Going barrel, short train. Balance under dial with toothed edge meshing with pinion end of pirouette. Pirouette between plates with pinion under wheel and second at end under-dial. Cylinder escapement, brass wheel with 'pin pallet' type teeth. Train planted clockwise.
REAR DIAL: White enamel on copper, with counter enamel, 'C'-shaped cut-out under VI, two feet. Off-set dial towards top, ladder minute ring with 5 minute dots, radial Roman chapters. Surrounded by polychrome painting of figures, one to the right at an angle, with water at the bottom.
DIAL: White enamel on copper, with counter enamel, round hole above VI, winding hole XII, two feet. Ladder minute ring, 5 minute dots, radial Roman chapters. Centre with poylchrome painting of shepherdess dancing to seated shepherd in woodland glade. Cardboard rim at edge on back.
HANDS: Back - gold, straight with central swell. Front - gold as cast pierced hour. Polished beetle minute (replaced square.)
CASE: Silver, plain double glazed with pivot blocks. Stamp near one block unidentified. Pivots at 4.30 and 10.30 of front dial, making front dial vertical when facing away from monkey.
STAND: Gilt bronze monkey with red glass eyes, standing on feet with coiled tail supporting, holding watch between hands. Underside of tail stamped with makers mark 'a n' conjoined in rectangle and two unidentified stamps. Makers mark and two unidentified marks on side of tail near base.
