Description

Verge watch in silver gilt pair case, with associated filigree outer case.

MOVEMENT: Full plate movement engraved 'G. Conway London 62381'. Balance cock, table pierced and engraved with vase from neck and central flower, foot engraved. Polished steel balance. Slide plate engraved, silver regulation dial engraved 1 to 6 in Arabic figures. Fusee iron post turned. Plain winged polished steel case bolt, nib in brass edge. Potance, foot with moulding at end, screwed to plate, foot and inside of plate marked with three centre pop marks. Counter-potance riveted to plate. Pillar plate with four turned pillars with central cylindrical portion and rib and tapered ends. Under-dial set-up clock, plate stamped 'S'. Fusee and chain, barrel with one lip, set-up clock under dial. Verge escapement. Train planted anti-clockwise.

BRASS EDGE: Gilt brass, three feet, scratched on plate side 'WHP 3/1/02'.

DIAL: White enamel on copper, three feet, counter enamel marked in red '10'. Ladder minute ring, diamonds at quarters, radial Roman chapters.

HANDS: Gold, beetle and poker.

INNER CASE: Silver gilt, plain body and bezel. Inside of body stamped with maker's mark 'NI' in rectangle, London H.M. 1792 with Duty Mark. Inside scratched '1.02,5', '576' with 'o/22/j' and 'GA'. Cylindrical pendant, half thickness cut away at back bottom, plain cylindrical top. Plain stirrup bow.

OUTER CASE (A): Gold, filigree.

WATCH PAPER (B): Printed paper with Royal coat of arms at top with pritned under 'Alexr Mowat & Son/Watch & Clock/Makers/7 Duiet Street/Bath' and around edge, at top 'To her Majesty's commissioners of works & public buildings'; at bottom 'chronometers repaired and adjusted'. On the back is written 'Decr 8th. 1857'.
