Verge watch in single gilt case

MOVEMENT: Full plate movement engraved 'Edw*Erlin London'. Balance cock with pierced table having ears and a mask engraved at the neck, foot pierced with full border. Steel balance. Pierced dragon index slide plate, large silver regulator disc, with Arabic radial figures 10 to 60. Pierced fusee iron post. Case bolt with flat formed foot. Rectangular potance with short foot with moulding at end, riveted to plate. Rectangular counter-potance riveted to plate. Pillar plate with four square baluster pillars. Under dial engraved 'M' under minute wheel. Fusee and chain, tangent set-up, third and contrate wheels crossed out in three. Verge escapement. Train planted anti-clockwise.

DIAL: Gold, 5 minutes numbered in cushions, ladder minute ring, radial Roman chapters, all raised above a matted ground. Matted dial centre with engraving around centre hole.

HANDS: Blued steel, beetle and poker

BRASS EDGE: Gilt brass, three feet, with wheat-ear engraved around edge of dial.

CASE: Single, gilt metal, covered in shagreen, winding hole covered with gilt metal disc. Gilt inside of case with scratches '55/-', 'S844=', '144' and '4R64'

Note

The inner case of the watch may have been made by either William Cooper of Lamb Court, Clerkenwell Green, or William Ginn who was free of the Clockmakers' Company in 1700. The movement was not by Thomas Tompion although his name is engraved on it.
