Description

Lever watch in gold case.

MOVEMENT: Capped full plate movement signed 'Robt ROSKELL' on back plate and 'LIVERPOOL 41618' on barrel bar. Plain balance cock with blued end piece fixed with two screws, and diamond end stone. '41618' scratched on underside of cock foot. Polished steel balance with rounded rim. Straight blued steel regulator with polished top to block at end. Regulation scale engraved on back plate with 'Fast' and 'Slow'. Plain fusee stop bracket, polished steel perpetual ratchet and spring. Case bolt polished steel, slides in slot in plate. Potance screwed to back plate. Pillar plate with four turned pillars with rings, centre wheel recessed into pillar plate, third wheel bar. Going fusee and chain, ratchet set-up under dial, plain barrel. English right angle lever escapement. Crank roller with jewelled pin supported both ends (Trehern type II. ref 1).

BRASS EDGE: Gilt brass, three feet.

CAP: Plain with oval raised table cut out for balance cock, blued steel catch.

DIAL: Multi-coloured gold, three feet. Outer border of flowers, dotted minute ring, raised radial Roman chapters on ringed ground, engine turned dial centre.

HANDS: Gold club and poker.

CASE: Gold, double-backed, open faced gold case with cast floral blody, back engine turned with plain central disc. Movement hinged out at 9 o'clock. Inside the dome HM Chester 1828, 18K. Case maker mark incised 'CJ' over 'WG', and stamped '41618'. Scratch marks on inside of dome '17758, Weules, 98921 WD 4-56, Gp 10-57, P466, D1168, Wy277 (or 279), D773, 187, P880'. Back marked inside Chester HM 1828 and case maker's mark 'CJ' over 'WG', also scratched 'March 42, July 45, Oct 44 and Sep 46'. Cast floral spherical pendant with chased circular bow.
