Verge watch in gilt metal pair case.

MOVEMENT: Full plate movement engraved 'James Vigne LONDON 1570'. Balance cock, table symmetrically pierced, with two birds and foliage, central vase. Outside filed away to allow for banking of cock, mask at neck, foot engraved. Brass balance. Banking pins in rim of balance to run against modified table. Slide plate engraved, clear areas at each side of regulation disc with 'S' and 'F' engraved in them. Silver regulation disc, sun engraved on one side as a reference mark and radial arrows, somewhat like the compass on a chart. No figure. Pierced fusee iron post. Blued steel case bolt with pierced ears, in slot in plate, nib at edge. Potance with moulding at end of foot screwed to, and counter-potance riveted to, back plate. Pillar plate with four slightly tapered turned pillars. Centre wheel recessed. Fusee and chain, set-up ratchet under dial. Verge escapement. Train planted anti-clockwise.

BRASS EDGE: Gilt, hinge block not gilt. Hinge block does not fit pillar plate slot.

DIAL: White concave enamel on copper. Radial Arabic 5 minute figures, dotted minute ring, radial Roman chapters.

HANDS: Pierced gold.

CASE: Double-backed gold consular case, back chased with floral design with lined background, rest of case chased overall. Inside dome stamped with incise 'D pellet A' and scratched '26/0/48'. Inside body scratched '////'. Bezel hinged and chased, last 2mm, to hold glass, of different coloured gold and chased to match, but not the same as, bezel.

PROTECTIVE CASE (A): Gilt metal covered in shagreen. The back of the case is packed with paper, apparently torn from an old dictionary.

WATCHPAPERS (B-D):

B) North polar projections map of world to latitude 55 degrees, hand drawn in black ink on paper.

C) Bobbin lace circle 45 mm diameter.

D) Hand written watch paper, in ultra fine pen work. Around edge 'To her Grace the Duchess of Kingstone', along falling drape 'The Late Duke of Kingston's lines'. Under this:
'Lord all my purposes prepare;/ Let me thy tender mercies share;/ Correct my ways - my thoughts refine,/ And make my hear compleatly thine;/ Thy all-inspiring grace afford,/ When I peruse thy Sacred word; and oh! my God who all things gave/ She (thro' my dear Redeemer) save/ SS'.
