The Stag Hunt pattern was derived from Chinese famille rose export porcelain of the mid 18th century, on which it was combined with bianco-sopra-bianco (white on white) decoration. It was copied by several English porcelain factories, including Worcester , Derby, Lowestoft, and Chaffers and Gilbody in Liverpool. It has been suggested that the pattern on Worcester porcelain may have been executed in the decorating workshop of James Giles in London.
