Seated official
Production: Longquan Kilns
Seated official or God. Solid stoneware, with celadon glaze, cobalt blue eyes and pierced for insertion of hair. Official seated with legs apart and left hand on knee. Its flowing robes are held with an oval buckle over a large stomach. The centre back is unglazed.
History note: Purchased from Sotheby's, 3 May 1935, for £5.0s.0d. Property of Mrs Darby, part Lot 11; Henry Scipio Reitlinger (d. 1950); the Reitlinger Trust, Maidenhead, from which transferred in 1991.
