Description

Vase. Hard-paste porcelain painted in underglaze-blue. The dish mouth is slightly flared, and the cylindrical neck has applied S-scroll handles. The rounded body is waisted on the lower part with a rib above the spreading foot, with flat, recessed glazed base. The exterior of the dish mouth is painted with a key-pattern border, the neck with a flower spray between the scroll handles, the body with blossom and leaves, and the flared foot with artemesia leaves.

History note: Probably purchased from Sotheby's, 27 October 1933, Reginald Le May Collection, for £1.10s.0d, Lot 61; Henry Scipio Reitlinger (d. 1950); the Reitlinger Trust, Maidenhead, from which transferred in 1991.
