Description

Baluster jar and cover. Hard-paste porcelain painted in underglaze blue. The jar has a straight neck, with lipped rim, rounded, sloping shoulders tapering and flaring out to the footrim, and a flat, recessed, glazed base. The cover is domed with a large finial. The neck is painted with a border consisting of a jewel, solid lozenge, artemesia leaf and a pair of books, above a band of herringbone pattern. The body is painted with Qilin amongst trees and a fence. Four large cloud scroll motifs decorate the cover interspersed with smaller cloud scrolls.
