Description

Baluster jar with applied lion masks and rings. Hard-paste porcelain painted underglaze in copper red. The jar has a flared neck with rounded lip, and rounded shoulders with two applied lion masks and ring, tapering towards the flared foot. The base is flat, recessed, and glazed; the under footrim is unglazed. A wide band of honeycomb pattern decorates the neck. The body is painted with scrolling peony with four peony flower heads alternating with emblems, a sword and gourd vase, a basket of flowers, a flute and scrolls, and a fan and scrolls. Beneath is a band of ruji heads, below which there is a border of two fishes, and finally a border of gongs and flower heads with pendant tassles.
