Description

Comic valentine. A hand-coloured woodcut on thin wove paper. A woman wearing a large crinoline skirt stands at a countryside stile, unable to fit through. A speech bubble is drawn from her mouth: "However / shall I get / it in?" A man sitting on a hillside behind her looks through a telescope. A printed verse below: "Picture to yourself a Lass, / Brought to such a pretty pass; / And tell me if you think it wise / To make yourself so huge a size!". The Museum of London holds an example, in addition to an uncoloured version with a partial verse. See ID:34.170/1122 and ID:34.170/1121.
