Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
Comic valentine (Doctor). A hand-coloured woodcut on one leaf of thin, wove paper. The hand-colouring is crudely executed and unfinished. An older man with side-whiskers and an over-sized head with a long, pointed nose feels for a pulse at the bedside of a sick female patient. The doctor wears a skull-shaped tie pin. A bottle of "MIXTU[RE]" and a "PILL" box on the floor to either side. A printed verse below: "Man of pill and potion, physic, and poison plaster, / Who so good a friend when we meet with dire disaster, / For you can cure us quicker than the butcher, cook, or baker, / By preparing us at once for your friend, the Undertaker." Most likely one of a series.
