Description

A hand-coloured lithograph on lilac-tinted laid paper with red edging. A vignette of a couple standing beneath a tree, a church in the background to the left. The title below: ACCEPTED LOVE and a printed verse: "Seek wealth, ambition, fame / And you'll confess when all is done, / With the wise man of olden days, / That all is vanity beneath the sun. / But if pure Love has been your choice, The sweetest of rewards is given, ...". The verse is entwined with the stems and flowers of the fuschia plant, with FUSCHIA printed below the verse at lower centre. An arrow and quiver of arrows lie beside a fancy urn at lower right. The inside pages are blank. From a series. See also: P.14346-R-59; P.14346-R-60; P.14346-R-61 and P.14346-R-62. An example from the same series printed on yellow-tinted paper is held at the Museum of London, see 34.170/936. It has been dated, 1860-1880.
