Description

Postcard-style valentine with a poem by author and well-known verse writer, Helen Marion Burnside (1844-1920). Chromolithograph on cream card with a plain printed border of double lines with rounded corners and an illustration of white, rose-like flowers with applied glitter (probably mica). The title printed at upper right in gothic script: "Hear what I have to say / to you / Dearest". Verse printed at lower right: "The flowers / are coming / the twitter of birds / Has whispered of spring begun, / By spring - nature's love-time-awakened / - and stirred, ...". / H.M. BURNSIDE.". A monogram to the left of the illustration: "DK"? "COPYRIGHT" printed at lower left. One of a series, with illustrations by the same artist and verses by Burnside. See P.14349-R-1. The style suggests a dating of 20th century rather than 19th.
