Valentine card
Publisher: Meek, George
A central panel of lace-paper with gilded detail and corner embellishments at lower centre. An oval-shaped window at the centre with an inserted chromolithograph (an imperfect fit and white silk panel visible behind) of a romanticised representation of Cupid dressed in a yellow tunic and carrying a bow in his left hand and a flaming torch in his right. The panel is mounted with paper springs to what appears to be two pieces of cream card of identical design arranged horizontally with embossed and gilded borders and scalloped edges. A cut-out scroll with gilded edge affixed at lower centre with verse printed in red ink: "I love thee dearly". MEEK embossed on lower card at right edge and on upper card at right edge. This joining together of two cards (probably originally a folding valentine) is seen elsewhere. See also P.14349-R-20, P.14349-R-24, P.14349-R-23 (which uses identical Meek cards) and P.14413-R-94.
