Description

Gilded-lace-paper panel mounted with an embossed chromolithographed scrap of pink roses, forget me nots and blank scroll. When lifted, the scrap reveals a lithographed message: "Friendships [sic] offering". Traces of adhesive on the verso of the panel indicate that it was once affixed to a valentine card, presumably as a centrepiece. "?9" written in graphite on verso. It was included in the exhibition of valentine cards, _For ever thine: the nineteenth century valentine_, held in the Charrington Print Room at the Fitzwilliam Museum in 1995, no. 44.
