Valentine card

Lithograph with hand-colouring on white lace-paper. A central panel with an image of a woman holding a letter in her left hand. "Forget me not" printed below and a hand-written name in ink over graphite: "Caroline". Images of flowers, doves and Cupid and his chariot and a printed verse surround the central image: "Tis night the moon shines on the stream, ...". ADDENBROOKE stamped at lower left. A hand-written verse on the right-hand inside page: "When first amidst ... I will be thine own Valentine.". Watermark: W KING / 1837. "W.M. 1837" written onto the album leaf in graphite. This card was included in the exhibition of valentine cards, _For ever thine: the nineteenth century valentine_, held in the Charrington Print Room at the Fitzwilliam Museum in 1995, no. 12. A graphite number "12" is written onto the album leaf in the lower right-hand corner, which corresponds to the numbering of the catalogue.
