Valentine card

Hand-coloured etching and engraving on a single sheet of 4to-size white wove paper. A couple wearing regency dress, the lady veiled, stand at the altar of Hymen who conducts a marriage ceremony. Crimson curtains enclose the scene. An engraved verse below: "Oh do kind Cupid aid me pray, / And make my sweet Love kind, / Great joy and mirth shall crown the day / That Hymen doth us bind.". An erased graphite inscription is visible at upper centre and centre right. A graphite inscription at upper right: "13". Graphite inscription on the verso: "7/6 / Gretna Green / [...]".
