Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
4to-size single sheet of white wove paper with an embossed rectangular panel at the centre. There are hand-painted scallop shell emblems in pink at the four corners with a hand-drawn border in blue around the outside edge of the panel. An oval-shaped panel at the centre has a hand-painted scene of a shoreline with outline of a sea cave framing the foreground. A cut-paper lithographed and hand-coloured figure of a maiden in white wearing a crown of pink roses on her head and standing in a large scallop shell on the sea would seem to be a representation of the birth of Venus. The figure also has visible wings, however and so additionally appears angelic.
