Description

Vase with trumpet-shaped mouth. Hard-paste porcelain painted in famille verte enamels, green, blue, yellow, iron-red, aubergine, black and gilding. The vase has a long, cylindrical neck with trumpet mouth on rounded shoulders. The ovoid body tapers to a flared foot. The base is flat, recessed, and glazed. It is painted with an all-over scene of warriors, on foot and horseback, in a mountain and tree landscape, with green, diamond work border around the shoulders and double-line circle in underglaze blue around the mouth and foot.

History note: Purchased from Sotheby's, 25-28 April, 1933, Stephen D. Winkworth Collection, for £55.0s.0d, Lot 529; H.S. Reitlinger (d.1950); the Reitlinger Trust, Maidenhead, from which transferred in 1991.
