Valentine card

Loose inside album P.14412-R between nos. 21 and 36. Comic valentine on the subject of a trade. Very small, 48mo size white wove paper with embossed border and hand-coloured lithograph of a pot girl with an oversized head filling tankards for gentleman customers seen on the other side of the bar. Printed verse below (ink faint in places): "Dear Pot Girl I will call you [(Jill)] / for I know you'r [sic] often there / and to [sic] much gin and Beer you [swill] / you [sic] flirting must beware.". A 'Jill' or 'Gill' was a common name for a flirt. The inside pages are blank. "WOOD" embossed (faintly) at lower right. One of a series of small comic cards by J.T. Wood with embossed borders and hand-coloured lithographs on the subject of trades, sixteen of which are mounted as a group in album P.14412-R, along with three loose duplicates. This is a duplicate of P.14412-R-30. The hand-colouring is stronger in this example but the ink is missing in places.
