Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A lithograph in black ink with hand colouring in red, green, yellow, brown and blue paint on 4to-size very thin, white wove paper and surrounded by a circular lithographed border of flowers printed in brown ink. At the centre of the border is a young woman wearing a dress with sloping shoulders and leg of mutton sleeves (typical of the 1830s). A tasselled curtain hangs behind her. A number printed within the illustration at lower left: '23', indicates that this valentine is one of a series. A verse is printed below: 'Yes for ever to my heart / Dear and precious shalt thou be / Wilt thou then dear girl impart / Love to him who lives to thee'. The interior is blank. From the same series as the four previous valentines with lithographed flower garland borders which are mounted together in album P.14416-R. In this example the flower garland border is printed in brown ink rather than blue.
