Description

Loose inside album P.14417-R between nos. 7 and 12. A small rectangle of red transparent cellulose, printed in silver lithographic ink with a decorative border around a titled verse: 'THINK NOT I'LL FORGET THEE / And canst [sic.] thou think that I'll forget thee, / All the joys that we have known, / Since the time when first I met thee, / Since our plighted hearts were one? / Let not fear or doubtings move thee / Time may yet our bliss retrieve / For never can I cease to love thee, / Till indeed I cease to live.'. Printed below the verse at lower centre: 'J.T. Wood Holywell St.'. Found with three other loose, printed cellulose valentines by J.T. Wood: P.14417-R-L3, P.14417-R-L4 and P.14417-R-L5. The cellulose rectangle was probably originally contained inside or intended for a sleeve and envelope like the examples mounted onto the album leaf; See P.14417-R-7, P.14417-R-8 and P.14417-R-11.
