Description

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A quarter-bound album with brown leather spine with double filleting in gold and, covering the front board, a decorative embossed and wood engraved paper with woodblock applied colours of blue and gold. A couple in medieval dress standing beside a pool at the centre with additional woodblock colouring of yellow and red with handcolouring in green watercolour in the areas of the trees and water lilies. Front and back endpapers are of yellow coated paper. The leaves are gilt-edged and of various colours, including blue, green and pink, and with some laid paper amongst the wove. There are many blank folios. An inscription on the verso of the flyleaf: 'Emma Hussey / Febry 1853'. Emma Hussey was presumably the previous owner of the album prior to Glaisher's acquisition of it. CONTENTS: The album contains several handwritten verses, in two different hands, on the theme of love, including 'The Virgins [sic] First Love', 'The Faithless One' and 'The Wedding Ring'. The album also contains five valentines.
