Valentine card
Publisher: Windsor & Sons
A valentine of a hand-coloured, cameo-embossed paper of a scene featuring trees, palms and a temple on the left and a couple wearing Greek drapery at lower centre. Blue and yellow birds sit in tree branches around them. An oval panel at the centre contains a hand-painted posy of flowers, including a passion flower and stencilled ivy leaves in gouache. A verse printed on a small square of paper in lithography of red ink with a gold border is affixed at upper centre: 'One kiss and then / good bye my love. / Since thou art anxious / to be free. / But nightly shall / I pray above, / That every blessing / wait on thee.'. 'WINDSOR' is stamped at lower centre. The interior is blank. A watermark: 'TOWGOOD / 1853'.
