Description

A pictogram valentine of white lace-paper with a design of entwining flowers and curtain around the central panel. A handwritten message in blue ink is punctuated by two pictograms; the first of a human eye and the second of a heart shape cut out of the front paper, the edge hand-coloured in red ink and the initials 'E' and 'R' written inside. The message reads: 'I / shall keep / my [eye] / and my / [heart] / open for you.'. Inside, the paper cut-out heart is affixed to the inside right-hand page and when lifted up reveals the word 'Love' written in blue ink. 'DOBBS KIDD & CO LONDON' is stamped at lower centre. A watermark: 'J WHATMA[N] / 1857'.
