With My Love To My Love A boxed valentine
Publisher: Tuck, Raphael
A boxed valentine in an original Raphael Tuck box with a lid. Valentine on heavy cream wove paper with an embossed and chromolithographed design of pink roses, with more abstract, uncoloured flowers with gold detail. A real lace border is stitched around the card on both recto and verso. A pink ribbon is tied through the card at centre left. 'Valentine Mine' is embossed in pink glossy ink at lower right and printed in gold ink at lower left: 'FAIR DAYS / to you.'. Inside, a double sheet of cream wove paper is tied into the card with the pink ribbon. On the left-hand inside page: a lithographed image of a dove in flight holding a valentine with two hearts pierced with an arrow; On the right-hand inside page, a lithographed verse: 'WITH MY LOVE / TO MY LOVE / I'd strew rose petals for your feet. / If I might be your Valentine ; / And all the treasures earth conceals, / And all the light the morn reveals, / And all the love that makes life sweet, / Across your pathway they would shine - / If you were but my Valentine!'. The card on the verso is speckled with gold ink. Printed on the verso: 'Raphel Tuck & Sons, Ltd. / Publishers to the King and Queen / Copyright London. / PRODUCED IN THE UNITED KINGDOM / The Lacette Series'. The 'by Royal Appointment' notice dates the card to after 1893. The valentine is contained inside a shallow white cardboard box with lid, the lower half of which bears a Raphael Tuck printed label on the verso: 'MY VALENTINE / DESIGNED AND PRODUCED BY / RAPHAEL TUCK & SONS LTD / NO. 11'. P.14354-R is a similar, unboxed valentine by Raphael Tuck.
