Dish. Hard-paste porcelain painted in green, iron-red, yellow, grey, blue and black enamels, with gilding. The dish has shallow, fluted sides and everted, scallopped rim. The interior well is painted with a central, scalloped medallion showing birds and insects in flight around flowering branches issuing from jagged rocks. The fluted sides are decorated with two bands of leaning, overlapping lotus petals containing flowering sprays. The underside is incised with leaning, overlapping lotus petals and painted with three sprays of iron-red and yellow flowers on leafy branches.
History note: Purchased from Sotheby's, 27.4.1933, Stephen D. Winkworth Collection, for £38.0s.0d, Lot 520; H.S. Reitlinger (d.1950); the Reitlinger Trust, Maidenhead, from which transferred in 1991.
