Description

Large baluster jar and cover. Hard-paste porcelain painted in underglaze blue. The jar has a slightly flared neck, and rounded rim. The rounded shoulders taper and slightly splay towards the foot. The inner footrim is unglazed, with flat, recessed, glazed base. The body is painted with overlapping, lobed, lotus-leaf shaped panels alternating with panels of river landscapes and plants. A herringbone border is above the foot; a band of meandering lotus on a washed blue ground is at the base of the neck, with a herringbone border above and below on the shoulders. A bud-shaped finial is on the domed cover with foliate rim. The cover is painted with six lobed, lotus-leaf shaped panels above flower heads.
