Found by metal detector at Thurcaston, Leics., on 14 September 1999; declared Treasure at an Inquest held on 16 March 2000. Part of a hoard of ten coins of which seven are already in the Fitzwilliam Museum, and the remaining two are likely to come to it by way of presentation. The hoard, comprising Anglo-Saxon, Viking and Islamic coins, is important for the insight it gives into the mixed nature of the economy of the Five Boroughs in the mid 920s, after Leicestershire is thought to have come under Anglo-Saxon control.
