Description

Oval base for incense container (C.738-1991). Hard-paste porcelain painted with underglaze blue. The oval base has a wavy outer rim and is moulded with the scaly tail of the dragon. The rocks are painted in underglaze blue with incised wave patterns in white. Unglazed base with concave centre. The interior has an unglazed inner rim and white glazed body.

History note: H.S. Reitlinger (d.1950); the Reitlinger Trust, Maidenhead, from which transferred in 1991.
