Tortoiseshell with miniature of a spray of flowers on a marble slab.
Tortoiseshell and metal, set with a miniature in bodycolour and watercolour, probably on card, mounted under glass in gilt metal. The rectangular box has straight sides and a flat lid with a carved tortoiseshell hinge and thumbpiece. The walls of tortoise-shell have been interlined with engraved metal, which gives a faint pattern through the shell; and a thin metal wire has been inlaid round the rim of the box. The mount is engraved with scrolling foliage. The rectangular miniature depicts a spray of flowers, including roses, tulips, poppies and auriculas, on a marble slab.
